Psy'Aviah

The Belgian act PSY'AVIAH has always been interested in fruitful collaborations with other artists, allowing them to learn and grow from shared experiences. Their recent 3rd album "Eclectric" proved it once again revealing their studio work with Jean-Luc De Meyer of FRONT 242 and also with the Canadian electro icon Jennifer Parkin of AYRIA.

This new EP shines the spotlights of their successful teamwork with AYRIA offering no less than 9 versions of "Into The Game" featuring the infectiously addictive lead vocals by Jennifer Parkin. Faithful to their eclectic artistic concept, PSY'AVIAH here selected very different remixers to guarantee a splendid diversity of reinterpretations of the selected song. From the EBM mixes by SIGNAL AOUT 42 and PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE to the more electric versions by SLAVE REPUBLIC, the electro pop of SUICIDAL ROMANCE, to the upbeat progressive dance reworks by INTERFACE and DISKONNEKTED, and to the dark renditions by MISERY and SCHWARZBLUT.

As bonus, PSY'AVIAH also arranged a radical remix of their club hit "Voltage" by label-mates KRYSTAL SYSTEM and reveal the brand new song "Wired Life", a first preview of their next album... The perfect meeting between emotional powerful female vocals, futuristic vicious synths and ferocious upbeat electronic arrangements...

Fixmer and Mccarthy

La première collaboration de Terence Fixmer et Douglas McCarthy n'aura finalement été qu'un faux départ. L'ensemble de leur premier album, "Between the Devil...", reposait en effet tant bien que mal (plutôt mal) sur son titre phare Freefall, isolé parmi une douzaine de morceaux quasi insipides et plutôt aliénants qui ne faisaient clairement pas le poids ; on avait au final plus affaire à une interminable série de "boum boum boum", Fixmer étouffant la voix de McCarthy, qu'à une véritable collaboration. Un sacré ratage.
Les deux acolytes ont donc décidé de ne pas en rester là et n'ont pas tardé à reprendre les armes avec ce qu'aujourd'hui l'on est en droit de considérer comme un nouveau départ. Le premier constat, évident, est que cette fois-ci chacun travaille dans le respect le plus total de l'autre. Douglas McCarthy peut en effet laisser sa voix s'imposer, dictant magnifiquement la mélodie (Like Voodoo, Love the Night) sans être parasité par la rythmique de Fixmer qui se fait cette fois-ci plutôt fine et, si elle sait castagner quand il le faut (Look to Me, Hate Me), s'octroie des passages plus travaillés, gagnant en variété et en richesse (Tonight I Sleep). On est bien loin du start / stop et des épuisantes "montées en puissance" incapables d'aboutir auxquelles nous avait jusque-là habitués le Lillois. Les deux comparses oscillent entre ambiances dures plutôt bien fichues (Look to Me, Hate Me), parfois crunchy (Banging Down the Door), se permettent quelques envolés carrément réussies (And the Finally), et prennent quelques risques avec des expérimentations plus difficiles (A Great and Distant Silence, Blood and Music), montrant à quel point l'un et l'autre savent dorénavant naviguer ensemble et cohabiter dans un univers qui leur est maintenant propre, maintenant identifiable derrière le nom "Fixmer/McCarthy" et non plus dans l'ombre de leurs projets respectifs.
